Warner Bros. to Reimagine ‘The Wizard of Oz’ in the hands of Kenya Barris.

A new version of The Wizard of Oz is in the works for Warner Bros., according to The Hollywood Reporter. Barris will recreate Judy Garland, Billie Burke, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, and Jack Haley’s Oscar-winning fantasy musical.

Licensed to Warner Bros Pictures, the 1939 Hollywood classic is owned by the company. As part of his production banner, Khalabo Ink Society, Barris will also produce Wizard of Oz. As part of its Wizard of Oz animated retelling, Warner Bros.

was working with veteran scribe Mark Burton. Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse book tells the story of Dorothy’s adventure through Oz as seen through her faithful dog Toto’s eyes in the film. Barris is also writing, directing, and producing a Richard Pryor biopic for MGM with Snoop Dogg, and MGM and Barris are also in the development of a comedy for MGM called The Underdoggs.
