Venues are now available for Tokyo Film Festival’s full-scale, in-person events

A new venue will be added to the Tokyo International Film Festival this year. This marks the festival’s first full-scale edition since the COVID outbreak. The festival moved to the Hibiya-Yurakucho-Ginza area in 2021 after operating for many years in the Roppongi district. Although it functioned as a real-world event, strict border controls prevented many foreign visitors from attending.

A slow lift in border controls is expected to increase foreign festival guests this year. Tokyo’s autumn season will be enriched by a spectacular opening event, they said. A new theater, Tokyo Takarazuka Theater, will host the opening ceremony. In conjunction with the Tokyo International Forum, the closing ceremony will be held.

A total of three large cinemas will be added to last year’s list of screening venues — Kadokawa Cinema Yurakucho, Cine Switch Ginza, Humantrust Cinema Yurakucho, Toho Cinemas Chanter, and Yurakucho Yomiuri Hall, which were used only for last year’s closing ceremony. Screenings of films will be increased as a result of these initiatives.

Organizers also point to better collaboration with local businesses and authorities in Hibiya-Marunouchi. The list includes Mitsui Fudosan, Mitsubishi Estate, Chiyoda City Council, and Zen-Ginza-kai, a shopping and business association.
