The long-running reality competition Dancing With the Stars will soon be available on Disney+… However, a couple of veteran professional dancers won’t be joining us this time. Both Sharna Burgess and Lindsay Arnold, both of whom are professional dancers, revealed on Wednesday that they will not be participating in the next season 31 of the dance competition, which will be the first season to air on Disney+ following a lengthy run on ABC.
In a series of Instagram Stories, Burgess revealed that she will not be returning to the show, saying: “After long conversations and lots of thinking and really trying to sit with what was right, and many conversations with Deena Katz, who is not only our casting director but also a second mom to me, I made the really hard decision to not do this season of Dancing with the Stars.” Our sister site, Deadline, was the first to report on Burgess’s announcement.
Burgess asserts that she is “at the maximum limit that my body can handle.” I feel fit, I feel strong, I’m so eager to dance.” But at the beginning of this year, she became a mother for the first time, to a son whom she called Zane, and she stated, “I was not ready to spend a minimum of 10 hours a day away from Zane.
In addition to the fact that I nurse my child around the clock, I can honestly say that I like being a mother in general. (However, she did give the impression that she would show up on Dancing with the Stars this season “in some form.”)
Arnold announced her leave in a statement on Instagram, writing, “This has been one of the toughest decisions to make but finally, I have chosen what I feel is best for myself and my family.” Arnold’s exit is effective immediately. (She is a mother to a girl named Sage who is 22 months old.).
“There are a lot of sacrifices that have to be made in order to make this happen, and regrettably, it simply did not feel right for us to make those sacrifices this time around,” she said. “Logistically, there is SO much involved in making this happen.”
Burgess made her debut as a professional dancer on Dancing with the Stars during Season 13, and she went on to compete in a total of 14 seasons of the show. In Season 27, she and her celebrity partner Bobby Bones won the Mirrorball trophy. Arnold made his first appearance in Season 16 and continued to compete for a total of ten seasons before winning Season 25 alongside Jordan Fisher.
The next season of Dancing With the Stars will start on Monday, September 19 on Disney+; the entire lineup of celebrity contestants and their professional dance partners has not yet been revealed. Burgess and Arnold will not be competing this season.
