‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ star Idris Elba reflects on Heimdall’s future

We talked with Collider’s own Perri Nemiroff about that post-credits scene in the upcoming man vs. lion thriller Beast, and what it means for Heimdall’s future in the MCU.

Thor: Love and Thunder see Thor Odinson’s ex-girlfriend Jane Foster claiming Mjölnir and becoming the Mighty Thor. Their superhero career Jane is short-lived, however, as she sacrifices herself to prevent Gorr, the God Butcher, from killing all of the gods in the universe, including the Asgardians.

According to Norse tradition, Jane was granted entry to Asgard’s paradise, Valhalla, because she died in combat. A post-credit scene in Thor: Love and Thunder feature Heimdall greeting Jane in Valhalla, where he perished during the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

While interviewing Elba, we returned to that scene and discussed how it might impact Heimdall’s future in the MCU. Additionally, we asked Elba about Heimdall’s postmortem explorations. Marvel Studios recently announced a packed calendar of movies and TV shows until 2026 as part of its MCU expansion.

Heimdall might not be seen again for a while since none of the upcoming projects feature Thor and the Asgardians. Besides Tessa Thompson, Peter Quill / Star-Lord, Dan Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper, Thor: Love and Thunder features George Bolden as Drax.

Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Chris Pratt as Star-Lord. He also played Zeus, the Greek God of Thunder, in the MCU. Also, Taika Waititi is directing Love and Thunder, based on a screenplay he wrote with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
