It is finally time for the new “Garfield” movie to hit theaters. Voicing Jim Davis’ fat cat, the film will see Chris Pratt voice the famous feline, Variety reports. It is slated to debut on Feb. 16, 2024. The animated film from Alcon Entertainment also stars Samuel L. Jackson, who portrays a brand-new character called Vic.
The movie will be special for comic book fans since this will be their first chance to meet Vic Garfield, Garfield’s father. Vic’s reunion with his son remains a mystery, unfortunately. However, the movie is expected to feature classic characters from the franchise, including Garfield’s owner Jon Arbuckle and his dimwitted dog Odie.
Film director Mark Dindal, known for “Chicken Little” and “Emperor’s New Groove,” penned the script. David Reynolds, who wrote “Finding Nemo”, wrote the story. Despite Russian soldiers’ attacks, Ukraine’s army successfully repelled them during the development of the project, and Alcon Entertainment acquired the rights to Garfield from Jim Davis.
Deadline reports that the comic strip and franchise creator is an executive producer on the movie. As well Davis, Bridget McMeel,d Craig Sost are executive producers. As producers, John Cohen, Andrew Kosove, Tom Jacomb, Steven P. Wegner, Namit Malhotra, and Broderick Johnson are involved.
China will not be included in the distribution of the new “Garfield” movie, which will be distributed by Sony Pictures worldwide. In the 2004 live-action and CGI-hybrid movies “Garfield: The Movie” and “Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties” and in 2006’s “Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties,” Murray voiced the orange feline before Pratt.
The films both achieved commercial success even though they received negative reviews. There were even direct-to-video sequels, including “Garfield Gets Real,” “Garfield’s Fun Fest,” and “Garfield’s Pet Force.
“Several animated series have also been released as part of the Garfield franchise, including “The Garfield Show” and “Garfield and Friends. As well as “Garfield,” Pratt will voice Mario in the upcoming “Super Mario Bros.” film by Illumination. In addition, he will also appear as Star-Lord in the third “Guardians of the Galaxy” film, due to be released next year.
