The cult favorite is getting an episodic reboot that horror fans are cautiously optimistic about

Almost no recognizable horror property has not been rebooted or remade at this point, with the desire to revive all scary brands now extending to cult classics that failed at the box office, such as Paul W.S. Anderson’s Event Horizon.

This gruesome sci-fi horror film did not impress audiences back in 1997, grossing only $42 million on a $60 million budget. Over the last quarter century, however, genre fans have been captivated by the story of an intergalactic rescue mission gone wrong.

Godzilla vs. Kong‘s Adam Wingard was expected to executive produce and possibly direct an episodic reimagining of Event Horizon for Prime Video in August 2019, but we haven’t heard anything about it since then.

The Reddit community is cautiously optimistic, however, that a TV series could explore the mythology in a way that a movie never could. Due to the studio’s short post-production schedule, Event Horizon took only 4 weeks to finish, while poor test screenings resulted in plenty of guts and gore being excised.

and any possibility of a Director’s Cut was ended when it was discovered the mythical “lost footage” was unrecoverable. Even though its feature-length version won’t arrive for a while, fans are willing to give Event Horizon’s small screen reboot the benefit of the doubt.
