Ted Lasso won the best comedy Emmy, and Succession won the best drama Emmy. A first for Lee Jung-Jae was the award for best actor in the dystopian thriller Squid Game.
It won best drama series for the first time in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the production schedule. Lee’s role in the Netflix series, which became a global phenomenon after its release, won the best actor award for Lee’s role in the series.
Best director was also awarded to Hwang Dong-hyuk for the show. Sheryl Lee Ralph and Lizzo were nominated for Emmys, and Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls won the best competition series.
