Teen Wolf director Dylan O’Brien debunks recent rumors he’s returning

Dylan O’Brien debunks a recent rumor that he will return for Teen Wolf: The Movie. On Paramount+ this October, the film based on the hit 2011 MTV series will feature many of the show’s most beloved characters. Tyler Posey and Tyler Hoechlin will reprise their roles as Scott McCall and Derek Hale, as well as Holland Roden, Colton Haynes, Shelley Hennig, and Crystal Reed.

Directed by Russell Mulcahy and written by Jeff Davis, the film is based on the Teen Wolf series. Stiles Stilinski was O’Brien’s character for the entire run of Teen Wolf and one of the rare non-supernatural characters. He was a fan favorite, which is why so many hoped he would return to the revival film. It was announced in March of this year that O’Brien would not be participating in Teen Wolf: The Movie.

He expressed his love and support for the cast and crew and even said Teen Wolf would always hold a special place in his heart, but he does not want to reprise his original role. Decider discusses O’Brien’s possible return in Teen Wolf: The Movie in an interview. An interviewer asks the actor about rumors of a change of heart. While at San Diego Comic-Con, rumors of O’Brien’s return emerged.

When Posey announced to fans that every character they would want to see was in the movie at the Teen Wolf SDCC panel, these rumors surfaced. O’Brien’s character Stiles is arguably one of the most beloved characters of Teen Wolf: The Movie, so fans were hopeful that he would appear in the movie.  This interview, however, puts those rumors to rest once again. According to the actor, although it was a difficult decision, he had to stay true to himself and not participate.

It’s clear how much the Teen Wolf fanbase wants him back, but in the end, that decision must be made by O’Brien. In the same panel where the Teen Wolf: The Movie trailer was revealed, Davis suggested the franchise might continue beyond this film. Despite its purposeful vagueness, it offers fans something to speculate about and anticipate.

There is no word on whether this will be achieved through sequels or a reboot of the series. It does, however, make it possible for O’Brien to appear in future Teen Wolf projects. No one knows what the future holds, but so far he seems certain that Stiles can be left behind. From his couch, O’Brien will cheer on everyone in Teen Wolf: The Movie despite the absence of a key figure.
