Adele was a student at the Brit School in Croydon, South London, a pioneering school funded part by the record industry and aimed at vocational training in the performing arts. To celebrate the 30th anniversary, teachers at school spotted some future stars among their students.
Some of the notable alumni include Amy Winehouse, Jessie J, Katie Melua, FKA Twigs, Freya Ridings, and Leona Lewis. It also includes some hit bands like The Kooks, the Feeling, and Black Midi and rappers Rizzle Kicks and Loyle Carner.
The acting graduates are the Hollywood stars Tom Holland and Cush Jumbo. Radio 1 DJ Gemma Cairney was also included in attendance. Stuart Worden has been a teacher at the Brit School since 1994 and Headmaster for ten years. He recalls the performance style of Adele when she first sang daydreamer at school.
The Brit School is Britain’s successful learning academy for future star entertainers. Mark Featherstone-Witty is the founder who was inspired by fame, a hit 1980 film about a fictional New York City performing arts school.
Stuart Worden has been a teacher at the Brit school since 1994. He expressed that, Children used to dance on the tables at school, but the stage school cliché of ‘show-off’ just does not exist here. Every student who is in the school can find out their talents and what they are about to write and sing.
The toughest or the coolest idea is that it just does not have the power of students. The Brit School has around 900 female and 500 male secondary school-age students where 90% of them are from London. All those students auditioned via workshops.
In a Brit school team, there are 1400 artists, where the successful actress Cush Jumbo got her break on the ITV detective drama Vera and appeared on the hit US TV shows The Good Wife and Netflix thriller Stay Close that praises the diversity of her old school.
She explains that the Brit school attracts people from all backgrounds as they cannot afford only to study but also prefer what they are really good at. The Brit School is sponsored by the music industry organization British Record Industry Trust, which organizes the Brit Awards.
Stuart says the Brit Trust has given us deep support, but the school needs £1.8 million a year to stand still. The arts are an amazing industry for Britain that brings billions of pounds to the economy.
There are some different courses like music, drama, dance, and behind-the-scenes artistic subjects such as music technology and production arts. The concerts had houses of two theaters with 280 and 500 seats.
