Meghan Markle Admits to Fangirling Over This One Celebrity

The Duchess of Sussex recently released a new podcast titled Archetypes that launched on Aug. 23. The first episode featured the iconic . Still, yesterday, Markle got to chat with none other than .

Markle enthusiastically talked about her experience interviewing the singer in a promotional video that Spotify dropped via on Tuesday.

In the video, the Duchess is sophisticatedly dressed in beige colors as she sits on an olive green couch in front of a microphone. “There are some people that I sit down with, and I just feel excited,” she said. “I mean, Mariah Carey is a great example. I go back to my 17-year-old self.”

“I think people are going to be surprised at the moments that I become a complete fangirl,” she noted while laughing at herself.

The Duality Of Diva

Per people, during the Podcast episode titled “The Duality of Diva,” Markle noted that she had admired Carey since she was a young girl and related to her because she, too, is biracial.

During the episode, the two spoke about how they are viewed as biracial women in the public eye. Markle pointed out that the two were treated differently because of their complexions.

The Duchess said, “You are not treated as a Black woman. You’re not treated as a white woman. You sort of fit in between.”

The Dating Scene

Markle goes on to talk about when she first started dating her husband, , admitting that everything started to become more focused on her race during that time in her life. She explained that the beginning of her relationship was when she “started to understand what it was like to be treated like a Black woman.” She continued: “Because up until then, I had been treated like a mixed woman, and things really shifted.”

Carey went on to talk about her own experience with race and noted that she felt forced to choose between Black or white. “As a mixed woman, because I always thought it should be okay to say I’m mixed, like, it should be okay to say that, but people want you to choose,” she said as Markle agreed with her statement.
