Megan Hilty finally gave a public appearance to speak out  after the death of her pregnant sister in a sea plane crash

The Tragedy 

On Wednesday evening, Megan Hilty took to Instagram to recount the tragic accident and share her immense grief. She captioned the post as, on Sunday afternoon, a small float plane crashed into Puget Sound off the coast of Whidbey Island.

Her beloved sister Lauren, brother-in-law Ross and baby nephew Remy were on that plane. To make this news even more devastating, her sister was eight months pregnant, and they expected to welcome baby boy Luca into the world in the next month.

She also wrote the last three days had been the worst of their lives. There are no words to convey the depth of our grief appropriately.

The Official Reports 

As per the U.S. Coast Guard, Lauren Hilty, her husband, Ross Mickel, and their child, Remy Mickel, were among the ten passengers and crew onboard a seaplane that crashed into the waters of Mutiny Bay off Whidbey Island. 

Following the crash, the Hilty family released a statement to Seattle NBC affiliate KING 5, revealing that Lauren was pregnant with the couple’s second child, a baby boy named Luca. 

The Statement 

They are so saddened and above devastated at the loss of their beloved Ross Mickel, Lauren Hilty, Remy, and their unborn baby boy, Luca. Their collective grief is inconceivable. They were a bright and shining light in the lives of everyone who knew them. Although their time with them was too short, they will carry their legacy forward,” the statement read.

They want to appreciate and thank the first responders, emergency service agencies of Whidbey Island, Island County, the United States Coast Guard (USCG), Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI), and private citizens. They participated in the search and rescue efforts following the crash. The enormous outpouring and support from our friends, family, and the public have been overwhelming. Their condolences also go out to the family members and buddies of those who lost loved ones onboard. At this difficult time, they are requesting that their privacy be respected as we grieve the loss of their family members,” the statement concluded.
