There are plans to release a sequel to Joker in Fall 2024, which was a massive success in 2019.Joker: Folie À Deux, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Joker, is set for release on July 11, 2019. Following the original film’s release, the follow-up is expected to release exactly five years later, on Oct. 4th, 2024.
Originally released in October 2019, the first Joker film broke October’s domestic opening record with $96.2 million, eventually grossing over $1 billion. Considering how successful the first film was, it’s no surprise DC and Warner Bros. will stick to the same strategy.
Joaquin Phoenix won Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and Best Original Score awards, among 11 nominations for the movie, including Best Picture. Several sources tell Deadline that production will begin in December, starring Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Todd Philips.
Why Joker 2 as a Musical Can Work in the Sequel’s Favor
The Playlist previously featured Phoenix’s cryptic tease of the film saying, “I mean, I dunno”. In the process of shooting, we started to realize, uhh, that this is a very interesting guy. We could do a few things with this guy and could take things to the next level.
How likely is it that we actually will? I don’t know.’While it is not clear in what direction Joker: Folie two is headed, there are certainly several exciting directions in which the character could go.
