John Boyega discusses why he doesn’t want to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this time

According to recent rumors, Star Wars franchise veteran will not be joining Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. A new interview reveals that he isn’t doing a Marvel movie for one simple reason: he doesn’t want to. Boyega uses his money and name recognition after years of working on a massive, corporate franchise to elevate smaller projects he considers to be “fresh.”

It’s not to say he doesn’t respect Marvel, or that it won’t happen in the future, but for now, the actor wants to do something else. For actors considering a , , Jr.’s Tony Stark still looms large.

According to Boyega, that isn’t in their vision for him right now. “My goal is to do nuanced things. . . . I want to work on indie movies that are fresh and new because I know it’s hard to top Iron Man in that universe.”

Boyega had a rough time working on Star Wars; he endured racist attacks from online trolls, and his character, Finn, disappeared halfway through the sequel trilogy, leaving some fans wondering what plans had been abandoned. The actor was one of many who said he would need extraordinary circumstances to return to the galaxy far, far away.

According to Boyega, his story might have been different from the originally-planned conclusion to the Skywalker Saga, and the abandoned Finn story would be the only way he will return to the franchise. According to him, an animated series could be developed for Disney+.

Boyega told Yahoo! News back in 2020: “I’m a Mandalorian fan, so Lucasfilm’s TV shows are doing well.” “Animated shows would be cool! We could do them from home.” The Star Wars sequel series is now available on Disney+. In addition to They Cloned Tyrone and The Woman King, Boyega will soon launch his long-awaited sequel to Attack the Block.
