Jimmy Kimmel received criticism after many viewers objected to the contentious prank he pulled during Quinta Brunson’s Emmy Awards speech on Monday night.
Jimmy Kimmel and Will Arnett being the presenters for the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series award, began a prank on stage where the actor pulled Jimmy Kimmel by his ankles as he mocked saying the TV host passed out after having “gotten into the skinny margaritas” at the backstage following by not bagging in his comedy category.
As Will Arnett announced Quinta Brunson to be the winner, she climbed up the stage to accept the award and then stepped over Kimmel’s body to get on the mic, who at that time was pretending to be motionless on the floor near her foot.
As Brunson bent down to him, still lying on the floor, and said, “Jimmy, wake up, I won…Jimmy?” He then gave her a thumbs-up.
Jimmy Kimmel, committed to his stage prank, did not make a move and lay there until Brunson finished with her acceptance speech, and Brunson thanked her cast and crew members and her family before leaving the stage.
This act of Jimmy Kimmel ignited an online controversy on social media, and users slammed him for robbing the spotlight during Brunson’s award-winning moment.

A reporter raised a question in the press conference after the award show to ABC series writer and creator, to which she responded.
“I know Jimmy Kimmel, and I felt like the bit didn’t bother me that much,” she said.
“I don’t know what the Internet thinks,” she added. “I don’t know, I know him. And honestly, Jimmy gave me my first big late-night spot.” She said that Kimmel was “one of the first people” to watch “Abbott Elementary.”
She then added that he messaged her on Instagram on seeing the comedy and thought it was one of the greatest comedies of all time, and he rejoiced that it was going to be on ABC. So at that moment, she was so happy that it was Jimmy Kimmel on stage, and she considers him the Godfather of comedy.
Quinta Brunson also said that she would be on the show on Wednesday so she could punch him in the face.
“I’m going to be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face,” she joked. “I don’t know, we’ll see what happens.”
Jimmy Kimmel received severe backlash on social media, and many users called him rude, disrespectful, and a sore loser. Social media users accused him of performing a “white male privilege” stunt on the stage.
