In its global box office debut, ‘DC League of Super-Pets’ crossed $130 million

There has been a continued surge in box office success for DC League of Super-Pets with the Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart-starred animated film pulling in an estimated $6 million this weekend, which raises the worldwide total earnings to an impressive $130.4 million.

It was shown on 8,443 screens in 70 markets this weekend, representing an impressive -23% drop from its July 29 US release weekend gross of $6 million. Other markets that had good holdovers include the UK, where only a -1% drop was seen; Brazil, where -29% was seen; and both Spain & Mexico, where -34% was observed.

Just over 48% of the global box office cume comes from the international market this weekend. Critics and audiences alike have praised DC League of Super-Pets, outside of its commercial success.

A ragtag team of shelter pets, led by Krypto the Super Dog, voiced by Johnson, including Ace, voiced by Hart, are given superpowers to rescue a kidnapped Justice League in DC League of Super-Pets. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 73% critic rating with an 87% audience rating. The film received an A- from Cinema Score.

DC League of Super-Pets marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Jason Stern, who also wrote the screenplay with John Whittington. As well to Johnson and Hart, the film features an all-star ensemble cast including Marc Maron as Lex Luthor, Keanu Reeves as Bruce Wayne, John Krasinski as Clark Kent, and Kate McKinnon as Lulu, and Olivia Wilde as Lois Lane.

Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, Thomas Middleditch, Jameela Jamil, John Early, and Dascha Polanco are also among the cast members. With the release of the DC League of Super-Pets in Japan this week on Friday, August 26, the film will continue to be released in new markets around the world over the next few weeks. Next week, the film will premiere in Italy on Thursday, September 1, and two weeks later, on Thursday, September 15, it will debut in Australia.
