Despite HBO Max cancellations, James Gunn says ‘Peacemaker’ is safe

It is still on track for season 2 of the superhero show, according to creator James Gunn. In a tweet, James Gunn assured fans of his DC comics superhero show Peacemaker after HBO Max canceled production of its upcoming Batgirl movie.“It’s still on,” Gunn responded to a question about whether the second season of Peacemaker would air.

The 2021 release of Batgirl was slated to star Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, and be directed by Ms. Marvel filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. It is part of Warner Bros.’ company-wide initiative to create feature films specifically for HBO Max, Variety reports. On Tuesday, Variety confirmed Batmangirl would not premiere on HBO Max or in theaters.

Scoob! Holiday Haunt, which follows the 2020 animated movie Scoob! , was also axed. Several “Max Original” movies have been quietly removed over the past few weeks from HBO Max: Moonshot, Superintelligence, 2020’s The Witches, An American Pickle, Locked Down, and Charm City Kings. It appears that Peacemaker is safe despite the culling.

Earlier this month, HBO Max officially renewed the series Peacemaker, which stars John Cena as a violent antihero. Gunn later tweeted a behind-the-scenes photo of Holland, who plays agent Emilia Harcourt, covered in blood while eating salad.
