Chris Rock has reportedly claimed he turned down the opportunity to do a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey following the Oscars slap ordeal.
Comedian Chris, 57, was slapped by Will Smith on stage at this year’s Oscars Academy Awards ceremony after he compared Jada Pinkett Smith to GI Jane in a joke about her hair.
Will, who is said to be in talks to resume the biopic on his life, later apologized to Chris in a video posted to his YouTube page, as he said: Chris; apologies to you, my behavior was unacceptable, and here whenever you are ready to talk.
It has been claimed that during a stand-up performance, Chris said he was offered the chance to do his tell-all chat about the incident, sitting down with Oprah Winfrey.
The report says Chris addressed the confrontation again at a stand-up performance in Phoenix over the weekend, claiming that he had been offered the chance to side with the noted host but had decided against the opportunity.
During the evening, he described that he declined an offer to go onto Oprah to do a sit-down interview with even a Super Bowl commercial with Will Smith, an audience member alleged he told the crowd.
He said you would not see me in any interviews crying my heart out about this. And he is not going to be a victim.
An audience member at Chris’ Arizona Financial Theatre show told Entertainment Tonight: During the evening, he said he declined an offer to go onto Oprah for a sit-down interview and even a Super Bowl commercial with Will Smith himself.
They added: He said, you will not see me in any interviews crying my heart out about the news. He is not going to be a victim. The crowd member went on: He thought we were all wondering if he was going to talk about that incident or not.
A chat with Oprah, whose most recent notable interviews include Adele and Meghan Markle, isn’t the only high-profile opportunity Chris has reportedly claimed to have rejected late, too.
According to the Arizona Republic, Chris told fans at his Phoenix stand-up gig about the show’s approach. He is to have told the audience that returning to the award ceremony would be like returning to a crime scene.
He reached out to Chris, and the message was that he’s not ready to talk, and when he is, he will reach out, he said at the time. He will tell you, Chris, I apologize to you, my behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.
