An Image of Black Adam Reveals a New Look at the Justice Society of America

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has shared a new magazine cover image of Black Adam and Justice Society members. Shazam! has long been the dream of the former WWE wrestler turned Hollywood superstar. Since 2007, a feature film.

After stalling in 2009, the project was revived in 2014 when Warner Bros. announced their DC Extended Universe plans. During this time, it was also decided to split the Shazam! The project was split into two films, allowing Johnson to star as the titular anti-hero, Black Adam, in his own feature film.

To hype the film, Johnson appeared at the DC FanDome streaming event in 2020, revealing that the Justice Society of America (JSA) would also be included, a superhero team formed by Sheldon Mayer and Gardner Fox in 1940.

Johnson’s team would eventually consist of Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo). Initially, Hawkgirl was also supposed to be part of the JSA’s line-up, but due to unknown reasons, her character was replaced by Cyclone.

A recent photo of Johnson and his co-stars on the cover of Total Film magazine was tweeted by Johnson himself so his fans could see it. His Black Adam is front and center, flanked by JSA members on either side.

There is a lot of attention being paid to Black Adam’s release and what it means for the DCEU’s future. With so many other DC properties being canceled or in peril, Johnson has repeatedly promised his entry will forever change “the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe.” This new film is hoped to help steer DC into a more stable situation.

Despite concerns about Henry Cavill’s Superman’s future, Johnson seems eager to have his character play a prominent role in the franchise in the future. Considering the ongoing erratic behavior of Ezra Miller and Cavill’s disinterest in any DCEU return, the future of DC’s other superteam, the Justice League, does not look good.

As a result, perhaps the JSA itself could step up and take on a much greater role within the DC universe once Black Adam is released. Following the film’s release, Hodges’ Hawkman and Brosnan’s Doctor Fate are likely to appear in other projects. On October 21, Black Adam is scheduled to be released in theaters.
