All-inclusive Internet is debating whether or not Harry Styles spat on Chris Pine during the Venice Film Festival

People, Chris Pine has joined the chat. And by “the chat,” I mean “the drama from “Don’t Worry Darling” that has been going through my mind for weeks. Pine, who stars in the movie with Harry Styles and Florence Pugh, gushed about Pugh at the Venice Film Festival, making it sound like he wasn’t on Team Styles and Olivia Wilde.

I’ll explain what happened next, but it all led to a very strange video that I’ve watched at least 15 times and counting. It’s hard to know what’s going on, but Twitter thinks that Harry Styles might have…spat on Chris Pine. ?

Which, I have to say, seems unlikely, and I say this as someone who has been hooked on every step of the crazy but believable Don’t Worry Darling drama so far.

Let’s take a step back. First, here is Chris Pine earlier today at the Venice Film Festival raving about his co-star in Don’t Worry Darling, Florence Pugh. Pine has spoken very highly of Pugh, telling Entertainment Tonight, “Florence is an amazing actress. I can’t say enough good things about her.”

Pine is known for being cute—there’s the reason he’s called the “Best Chris”—but if you know anything about the Don’t Worry, Darling saga, it can look like he’s taking sides here. Especially since this video from earlier in the day seems to show Pine looking, to put it mildly, unimpressed as Styles talks:

Let’s go back even further. Before Pine joined the chat, things seemed…tense between Pugh and the most famous couple in the movie: Wilde, who directed the movie, and Styles, who has been dating Wilde for over a year. Fans noticed that Pugh didn’t seem to promote Don’t Worry Darling on her social media pages. These rumors spread when Pugh did almost no interviews or press for the movie. (Pugh’s representatives say that she is busy filming Dune: Part Two.)

On the other side, Wilde and Styles have been promoting the film with the same level of fervor and excitement that Pine demonstrated for Pugh on the red carpet in Venice. But when Wilde stated in talks about the film that she had sacked Shia LaBeouf from the role that Styles now plays, LaBeouf shot back that it wasn’t true. Styles currently performs the role. Then, a video that appeared to show Wilde urging LaBeouf to continue working on the film emerged online.

Wilde replied, “You know, I have a feeling that this might serve as a bit of a wake-up call for Miss Flo, and I was wondering if you would be prepared to give this a chance with me and with us. What are your thoughts on the matter if she truly commits to the cause, if she genuinely puts her mind and heart into it today, and if the two of you can make peace with one another, bearing in mind that I appreciate both of your perspectives? Is there any chance? Will you tell me?”

So, could Styles have spat on Pine because things between them had gotten so bad? Was Styles’s spitting an accident, and did they both try to act as if nothing had happened? Again, it seems very unlikely that Styles would have spat on Pine in front of the world’s press, but the video has some people convinced.
