The three children of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, now go by their new names since King Charles III took the throne formally on September 10 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8.
King Charles III, the oldest son of Queen Elizabeth II, officially came to power on September 10 in a ceremony held at St. James’ Palace in London following the death of the Queen. On the same day, he announced his oldest son Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, are now entitled to new titles of Prince and Princess of Wales, respectively.
As a reason for the change in titles, Prince William’s three kids’ surnames changed to Wales, and now they will not be addressed as George Cambridge, Charlotte Cambridge, and Louis Cambridge at school.

After King Charles’s speech on Friday, the three kids previously known as Prince George of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, and Prince Louis of Cambridge, which was based on William and Kate’s titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, were removed from their social media profiles and replaced with Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales and Prince Louis of Wales.
This title Wales was previously held by Charles and his late former wife, Princess Diana, and has now been passed on to this son and daughter-in-law.
Since William’s late mother, Princess Diana, was the last person to be referred to as the Princess of Wales, William and Kate’s new titles have historical importance. A source told E! News that Kate Middleton “appreciates the history associated with this role but will understandably want to look to the future as she creates her path.”
During his first televised speech, Charles also announced that William would succeed him as the Duke of Cornwall and his wife Kate as Duchess of Cornwall and assume control of the Duchy of Cornwall.
This major British estate generates millions of pounds in revenue for the Royal family. Charles and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, previously held this Royal title.
The youngest son of King Charles Harry and his wife Meghan Markle is not eligible to get new titles as they have stepped down from their Royal duties in 2020.
However, their kids, who are grandkids of Charles, are eligible to be addressed as Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
