After fighting ALS, Lindsey Vonn’s mother Lindy died

Lindsey Vonn’s mother

Lindsey Vonn’s mother died one year after being told she had ALS. The athlete posted the news on her social media accounts and said that her mom is “a bright light that will never go out.” Lindsey Vonn is sad because her mother died. The Olympian shared the sad news on social media on August 27 that her mom, Linda Krohn, had “lost her battle with ALS.”

Year after her diagnosis

“She died peacefully while I held her hand, exactly one year after her diagnosis,” she wrote in an Instagram post that included old and new pictures of the two of them. “I’m so thankful for all the time I got to spend with her, but I’m also glad she’s no longer in pain and at peace. She was a bright star that will never go out, and I will always look up to her.”

Memoir Rise

Lindsey, who has won more medals than any other female skier in history, also retold the dedication she wrote to her mother in her memoir Rise, which she wrote in 2022. She said that the passage “unfortunately fits now.”

“She is my inspiration not because of what she did for my skiing career, but because of how her constant positivity made me who I am on and, most importantly, off the slopes,” she wrote in the book. “Every time I’ve had a problem, I’ve been able to look at it from a new angle and get ideas from her. All of the bad things that happened to her only made her stronger, nicer, and more humble. Since I was a child, this kind of grit has shaped me, whether I knew it then or not.”

Lindsey, who stopped skiing in 2019

She went on, “Mom, I hope to be as strong as you are one day. I hope to face each day with as much energy and hope as you do. I hope that when I have kids, I can teach them to be as amazing as you are. I love you.” Lindsey, who stopped skiing in 2019, got a lot of support from friends and fans in the comments section of the post. These included athletes Allyson Felix and Sabine Lisicki, model Ashley Graham, and Little Big Town singer Karen Fairchild. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson also sent his condolences by writing, “I’m so sorry for your loss, my friend. Love, light, and mana are being sent to you and your family.”

ALS is a neurodegenerative disease

The ALS Association says that ALS is a neurodegenerative disease with no cure that kills the nerve cells that control the muscles that allow us to eat, breathe, walk, and talk. Most people get the disease between the ages of 40 and 70, and the average time they live is between two and five years. Lindy died just two months after Lindsey gave a tearful speech about her mother when she was inducted into the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Hall of Fame. “But mostly, I’d like to give this to my mother,” she said at the ceremony in June. “She is currently fighting her own battle with ALS. She taught me a lot about being strong and having good character, and because of what she did, I was able to get through any problem that came my way. Mom, thank you.”
