It was Chef Darren McGrady, who revealed the Queen’s strange habit to the world through a YouTube video, that brought it to the attention of the world. During his time serving as the Queen’s chef, McGrady spent about 15 years in that position. The Prince of Wales and Prince Harry, as well as Princess Diana, have been served by him in the past.

It was stated in the video that the queen was served jam pennies in the nursery as a child, and she has had them every afternoon tea ever since.
