A 2024 release date has been set for Chris Pratt’s animated Garfield film

Chris Pratt is regarded as one of the most popular actors in Hollywood today, and he will voice one of the most famous felines in history in Garfield, released in theaters on Feb. 16th, 2024. On Aug. 3rd, the film was postponed from Nov. 22nd to 2024, originally scheduled for release on Nov. 22nd.

A description of Garfield reads, ‘Animated feature film based on the popular comic strip about a sarcastic, lasagna-loving cat.’ Mark Dindal will direct, his first animated project since Chicken Little in 2005. As well to Cats Don’t Dance and The Emperor’s New Groove, he has been involved in many other films.

In this movie, Chris Pratt plays the titular character, with Samuel L. Jackson playing his father, Vic. We have never seen Vic in comic strips or movies before. After working on Finding Nemo, Reynolds wrote the screenplay for Garfield.

Production will be handled by John Cohen, Tom Jacomb, Broderick Johnson, Andrew A. Kosove, Namit Malhotra, and Steven P. Wegner. Garfield will be distributed by Sony Pictures.

Garfield will make his first appearance on the big screen since the live-action/animated hybrid movies Garfield and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties in 2004 and 2006. Murray voices the titular cat in both films, which are both unfavorably received by audiences and critics.

The Lego Movie was released in 2014 with Chris Pratt as Emmet Brickowski, and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part followed in 2019. Pratt will appear in another animated movie, Onward, alongside fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Tom Holland in 2020.

In the film, two elven brothers attempt to bring back their father for one day. Nintendo and Illumination announced last September that Chris Pratt would voice Mario in a Super Mario Bros. animated movie with Charlie Day.

Garfield will see Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Pratt reunite to bring the Monday-hating, lasagna-loving character back to the big screen once again. In contrast, the two previous feature-film outings of Bill Murray and Garfield received 15% and 12% on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively.
